Iolite (pronounced Eye-o-lite)
A stone who’s energy symbolizes, vision, insight and adventure.
Often known as ‘water sapphire’ due to its deep blue colour, Iolite takes its name from the Greek word ‘ios’ which means Violet.
Iolite is pleochroic – transmitting light differently when viewed from different directions. This quality gave Iolite its other name The Viking Compass’.
Viking navigators used thin slices of Iolite through which to observe the night sky as it cancels out any clouds or haze and enabled them to locate the exact position of the sun for navigation purposes.
