THE GEMSTONE

Occurring worldwide and formed by the weathering of copper ore, this bright, rich green gemstone with swirls or darker green throughout has long been used for decorative purposes and for making green pigment.

The patterned colouration of malachite in shades of green is unique among gemstones. Historically, a lozenge of malachite was thought to protect against contagious disease, aid in living a successful and healthy life and help with sleep.
