THE GEMSTONE
The Romans prized this precious gemstone above all others, as the most powerful while the Bedouins believed that opals fell from the sky during thunderstorms and contained lightning.
Opal is the product of seasonal rains that soaked arid outback regions and carried dissolved silica into ancient underground rock where it formed layered deposits.
While Australia has long been the primary source for opal mines, it is also found solely in the Andes mountains of Peru, near San Patricio and is the highly prized Peruvian national stone.
Opal is believed to bring love, luck and health to the wearer.
